Daisaku Ikeda (池田 大作 Tokyo, Japan, January 2, 1928) is a philosopher, writer, photographer, poet and Japanese Buddhist leader.

In 1958, the second Soka Gakkai president, Josei Toda, and died two years later, on May 3, 1960, Ikeda was appointed its third president. Under his leadership, the organization has progressed, reaching about thirteen million members in Japan, making it the largest organization of its kind in that country. To support the efforts of the Soka Gakkai, based on the Buddhist philosophy of Nichiren and in order to promote peace, culture and education, Ikeda founded over the years, educational and cultural institutions, including the School System Soka covering the pre-school to university, the Concert Association Min-On and Fuji Art Museum in Tokyo.

Five months after taking the third president, Daisaku Ikeda started on October 2 for their first trip abroad with a delegation of six leaders of the Soka Gakkai. He took in his jacket pocket a picture of his teacher with the feeling of making the trip in his place.

The trip covered nine cities in three countries: Honolulu, Hawaii, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, New York, Washington and Los Angeles (United States) Toronto (Canada) and Sao Paulo (Brazil).

In each of these cities, he structured the organization and Brazil founded the Brazil District, predecessor of the Association Brazil - SGI (BSGI). Since then, numerous trips were held around the world for peace.

The organization was being structured in different countries, resulting in the need to create International Soka Gakkai held in Guam, Hawaii, in 1975. Daisaku Ikeda, SGI President further boosted the movement for peace, culture and education. Today, SGI is present in approximately 200 countries and regions and carries out activities for the well-being of society.

Since 1967, when Ikeda proposed the normalization of Sino-Japanese relations, he engaged actively in the preparation and publication of proposals, addressed to the United Nations, dealing with issues of peace, disarmament, education and the environment.
