London unsure about the EI executioner death

Estado Islâmico executa homens

The British government still does not know if English "Jihadist John", the most famous executioner of the Islamic State, died in a US attack in Syria, said on Friday Prime Minister David Cameron.

"We do not have certainty of success of the attack" against Mohammed Emzawi, but death "this barbaric assassinoi would be a blow to the heart of the Islamic State," Cameron said in a brief statement.

The United States conducted an air strike in Syria on Thursday against the so-called "Jihadist John" militant Islamic State seen on video running hostages, the Pentagon announced.

Spokesman Peter Cook did not say whether Mohamed Emwazi died, saying only that "the results of the operation carried out overnight are being evaluated and additional information will be given when apropirado," according to a statement.

The Pentagon reported that the bombing took place in Raqa, de facto capital of the extremist organization in northern Syria.

The chain CNN and the Washington Post, citing US officials, say the attack was carried out with a drone and that the objective was identified several days earlier by US intelligence.

"Emwazi, a British citizen, participated in videos showing the murder of American journalist Steven Sotloff and James Foley, the US voluntary Abdul-Rahman Kassig, the British volunteers David Haines and Alan Henning, Japanese journalist Kenji Goto and numerous other hostages" , details the Defense Department.

Emwazi, a computer programmer from London, was born in Kuwait in a stateless family of Iraqi origin.

His parents immigrated to Britain in 1993 after his Kuwaiti citizenship applications failed.
