The US president, Barack Obama, has become the first political leader to appear on the cover of a gay magazine throughout history.

The trustee was considered for publication "Out" as "The Year Ally" and rose to prominence in the list of 100 most influential people of the journal's LGBT community.

"This is the first time that a president still in office was photographed for the cover of a LGBT title," said the magazine's editor in chief, Aaron Hicklin.

"This is a historic moment in itself and a statement of how the Obama administration has done to advance a uniquely volatile issue that tarnished the reputations of Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush," said the American.

In addition to appearing on the cover, the political leader also gave an interview to Hicklin, which talks about the importance of people of the same sex marriage and the influence they have had both in his personal and professional life.

"Part of being the United States is taking responsibility to stand up for freedom, not only their own freedom but the whole world. Our individual stories come together to make a great story of 'America,'" Obama said.

In June, the Supreme Court of the United States legalized same-sex marriage. With that, the 13 states that still forbid marriage will have to legalize the unions. The decision was made by five votes to four.
