Canada: fire "spread toward the northeast, away from Fort McMurray (...) and major industrial zones"
"Weeks and weeks" of work will be needed to control the huge fires that are ravaging the forests around the Canadian city of Fort McMurray, assessed on Friday the fire control director of the province of Alberta, Chad Morrisson.
After a hellish week, a change in wind direction to suggest an improvement in the situation after about 2 000 homes were destroyed, leading to the evacuation of 100,000 residents of Fort McMurray.
The fires' spread toward the northeast, away from Fort McMurray (...) and major industrial areas, "said the Prime Minister of Alberta Rachel Notley, the state network CBC.
From Sunday, more than 1,000 km2 of forests were destroyed in Alberta, an area equivalent to ten cities of Paris.
"We will take weeks and weeks to put out these fires," warned Morrisson.
On Friday, there were 40 active wildfires in Alberta, including five out of control, fought by 1,200 firefighters, aided by 110 helicopters, 27 tanker planes and 295 excavators.
