Do not sunbathe is as dangerous as smoking, says study

The life expectancy of those who do not take much sun decreases up to two years

People who do not smoke, but do not take sun have the same life expectancy of people who smoke. It is pointing to research published in the Journal of Internal Medicine conducted with 30,000 women for about 20 years.

This study indicates that avoiding the sun is a death risk factor of the same magnitude as smoking. When compared to someone who is exposed more to the sun, the life expectancy of those who does not take too much sun can decrease up to 2 years and 1 month.

Researchers at the Karolinska University Hospital in Sweden, responsible for the study, noted that women that women who take more sun has less risk of cardiovascular problems and chronic diseases such as diabetes and multiple sclerosis than those who avoid the sun.

An interesting point in the study is that the benefits increase as the person takes more sun.

Unfortunately, not everything is perfect, the researchers say that there was also an increased incidence of skin cancer among those exposed to more sun. "However, skin cancer in people who were exposed to more sun had a better prognosis than those who drank less sun," says Dr. Pelle Lindqvist, author of the study.

Given all that, Lindqvist argues that women should not expose themselves or others and even less in the sun. "For some time we know that there are three habits that are dangerous to our health, they are: smoking, physical inactivity and being overweight Now, with this research we have seen that there is a fourth:. Avoid sun exposure," says Lindqvist.
