Crying with sad movies can be a relief - and even leave you happier in film output. But not so with everyone: who finds it difficult to balance your emotions just not managing to take sad thoughts of the head, and can leave the movie worse than entered.
Researcher from Harvard, Emily Bernstein realized that when he left to run, had a much greater emotional control. But I wanted to prove this effect scientifically.
For this, she asked 80 volunteers to attend the saddest movie of all time, The Champion of 1979. He was elected by scientists as the most efficient film to make people sad: can this effect on most viewers only two minutes and 51 seconds, the duration of the final scene.
The team asked volunteers not exercitassem on the study. They also assessed with questionnaires how much the participants felt in control of their emotions on a daily basis. Arriving at the laboratory, they were divided into two groups: one spent 30 minutes running at moderate speed, while the other one is lengthened.
After a little rest, the two groups watched the final scene of The Champion. Without even give time to catch the handkerchief, the team asked how efficient the participants thought they would be if they had to perform a task at that time.
The questions were repeated one at a minute to evaluate the time that each volunteer took to retrieve the film's emotional thump.
Aerobic exercise did not prevent the audience to feel sad - also the face of the child actor Ricky Schroder is really exciting. But who exercised before attending the scene recovered much faster negative impact. At the end of the study, they were much less sad than those who did not go.
According to Emily Bernstein, the survey results show that aerobic exercise can be a way to train their resilience and cope better with emotions.
I also did not want to let the volunteers go away in most climão: at the end of the study, they attended the happiest scene of all time at the movies. According to the same scientists who analyzed the Champion, the film Harry and Sally - Made for each other (1989) has the greatest chance to make you happy, especially the famous scene in which Sally, played by Meg Ryan fake an orgasm in a coffee.
