Sydney, Sep 19, 2016 - An Australian koala that was orphaned in an accident found solace in a stuffed animal shaped marsupial, who gave him to recover from his mother's death trauma.

The Shayne's mother, a koala nine months, died hit by a car in the state of Queensland in eastern Australia.

The marsupial baby was grabbed on his mother's back when the accident occurred and the impact was designed to 20 meters. When it was found, he was being attacked by crows.

Shayne was taken to the wildlife hospital zoo in Australia, directed by the famous animal advocate Steve Irwin family.

Veterinarians from the center explained that the marsupial is overcoming the trauma of losing his mother and is managing to become independent thanks to a stuffed animal shaped koala, which clings like his mother.

"Shayne was not injured in the accident. But you must face the loss of her mother and learn the vital lessons to become an independent and wild koalas," said Monday the director of the center, Rosie Booth.

Koalas, iconic marsupials from Australia, suffer the consequences of climate change and habitat loss. They are also victims of dog attacks, car accidents and chlamydial infections.

When the first British settlers arrived in 1788, there were over 10 million koalas. It is difficult to account for them because they live high in the trees, but in 2012 it was estimated that there were only 330,000.
