Queen Silvia of Sweden with Brazilian blood

Silvia Renate Sommerlath (Heidelberg, December 23, 1943) is the wife of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen consort of Sweden since 1976. They have three children: Victoria, Crown Princess, Carl Philip, Duke of Värmland and Madeleine, Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland.

Silvia Renate Sommerlath was born in Heidelberg, Germany, December 23, 1943. She is the youngest of three children, daughter of the German businessman Walther Sommerlath (who became president of the Brazilian subsidiary of metallurgical Uddeholm) and Brazilian Alice Soares de Toledo . His maternal grandfather was Arthur Floriano de Toledo (1873-1935), a descendant of King Alfonso III of Portugal and his mistress, Maria Peres Enxara. The Queen has two brothers: Ralf and Walther Sommerlath. His third, Jörg Sommerlath died in 2006. 

Sommerlath family lived in São Paulo, Brazil, between 1947 and 1957, where Silvia studied in traditional German school Colégio Visconde de Porto Seguro. The family returned to West Germany in 1957.



Professional career

In the early 1970s he worked with the Argentine consulate in Munich during the Summer Olympics of 1972. He worked as director of protocol of the Winter Games in Innsbruck, Austria, and, briefly, as a flight attendant.

Interpreter, Silvia speaks six languages: Swedish, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and English. Also, it is fluent in sign language for the hearing impaired.

Dating

During the Olympic Games in Munich in 1972, Silvia Sommerlath met the then Crown Prince Carl Gustaf of Sweden. In a subsequent interview, the future king told him that they combined well.

engagement
With the death of King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden on September 14, 1973, Carlos Gustavo was crowned king, five days later. He and Silvia announced their engagement on March 12, 1976


Marriage

hey married three months later, on June 19, the Storkyrkan Cathedral, Stockholm. It was the first marriage of a reigning Swedish monarch since 1797. If they had married during the reign of King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden, he would lose the right to the Swedish throne. [Be clarified]

In celebration of the marriage, there was a gala on June 18, 1976, in the presence of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, the future Queen Silvia and their parents, Walther and Alice. The famous pop group ABBA Dancing Queen performed the song on Swedish television one night before the ceremony. The music was not composed in honor of the future queen, according to the members, but it was one of the highlights of the festival.

The King and Queen of Sweden has three children:

Victoria Ingrid, born on July 14, 1977. She married June 19, 2010, Prince Daniel, who was born on September 15, 1973. The wedding took place on the 34th wedding anniversary of their parents.
Carl Philip, born on May 13, 1979.
Madeleine of Sweden, born June 10, 1982.

Prince Carl Philip was born crown prince. However, with the constitutional reform, his older sister became the first in line.

According to Silvia, the children were brought up like ordinary children, despite the title Royal Highness and commitments to the Swedish throne. To secondary education, the princes studied in public schools. Princess Victoria of education was more intense, due to the responsibility which will future monarch, but the psychological basis for Sylvia passed to all the children was central to the 

Crown Princess.

Life as queen

Educated, elegant, polite and recognized the simplicity and friendliness, Queen Silvia is admired not only for the fulfillment of their duties, but also by engaging in important social projects. In 1999, Queen Silvia of Sweden founded the World Childhood Foundation, with the aim of promoting better living conditions and protection of the rights of children against poverty and sexual abuse. The organization is present in fourteen countries and performs more than one hundred programs.


The January 13, 1987 received the Grand Cross of the Military Order of Christ and the May 2, 2008 received the Grand Cross of the Order of Infante D. Henrique.


royal descent

His maternal grandfather was Arthur Floriano de Toledo (1873-1935), a descendant of King Alfonso III of Portugal and his concubine Maria Peres Enxara. Arthur was the great-grandson of Antonia de Almeida de Aguiar a descendant of a family of nobles established in São Paulo, during the Portuguese colonial period, including the Alvarenga family Lamego, Portugal. She is also very distant Brazilian Amerindian descent. One of his ancestors was the Indian chief Tibiriçá of Piratininga
