How to care for your skin

Adopting a few habits, you can delay the arrival of the effects of time on appearance and preserve their identity card: the skin

                  Como cuidar da sua pele

Think of a freshly picked peach: its bark is lisinha, velvety, firm and with a uniform color. As the days pass, however, the fruit takes on a wrinkled appearance. Some parts of rotting bark, leaving stains and velvety gives way to dehydrated.

Inside, the peach may even be ready to be consumed, but you can not see inside. What sees is the bark. This process occurs in much the same way in your body.

Our skin is a shell, a business card to the world. No wonder she's the champion of anti-aging treatments.

The aging trend, sagging, wrinkles, fine lines, blemishes, fat deposits localized and the dreaded jowls and pelancas soon knocking on the door. These features appear for two main reasons. The first is out of our reach. Are the factors related to genetics, hormones and the natural slowing of metabolism. Called "intrinsic" by dermatologists, they can not be avoided, leaving hope that the genes work to your favor. It is the second reason, however, the external factors, you can act. Our habits and the environment directly affect the skin, like the sun, smoking, excess alcohol, poor diet and dehydration. And some care, simpler than you think, can make a difference to slow the effects of age.

Sun: Enemy # 1

If you want to focus in the fight against aging skin, combats the sun. When dealing our cutis, solar radiation is absorbed by molecules and transformed into heat, which process causes DNA damage and later will cause the appearance of stains and wrinkles. Of various types of radiation that the sun emits (visible light, infrared, etc.), two are more lethal: ultraviolet type A and UVB ultraviolet B is one that causes the famous sunburn and can not penetrate deeply, affecting only the outer layer of skin, the epidermis, where they are immune cells and sun protection. Already UVA radiation is a kind of "silent killer", shows no immediate signs of their damage. It penetrates into the dermis, the second layer of the skin, and can change the elastin and collagen fibers, the core support cutis.

Roughly speaking, collagen is a structural molecule present outside the cells that leaves the skin firm, and elastin is an elastic structure (you may have guessed by the name) that allows the skin to return to its original shape after extended. Its fibers have performance similar to a rubber: when new, can be stretched at ease that, to hold still firm. Already older, after much back and forth, no longer return to the original shape. In the body, collagen and elastin decrease naturally over the years, but the change caused by UVA rays can accelerate the process of sagging. The counter-attack comes in the form of sunscreen of at least SPF 30, which should be applied every day, even in cloudy or rainy. Another solution is to avoid long periods of sun exposure and retreat.

nutrients

To have a youthful appearance for longer, you should understand that your skin needs nutrients. Two ways to nurture it are the intake of water, which eliminates waste that age the skin, and a balanced diet. The third alternative is pharmacy: moisturize the skin from the outside. Creams, gels and serums supply the skin with substances such as vitamins A, C and E and hyaluronic acid, added in skin care products. The serum - which is not as dry as the gel or as dense and oily as the cream - usually has a higher concentration of assets. In Brazil, its acceptance is greater than the cream, which in turn ends up functioning more as a physical barrier against water loss. Waterborne - unlike cream, made predominantly oil - the serum facilitates the passage of these assets through the skin toward the cells.

Each substance has one or more functions. Vitamins A, C and E have antioxidant power; Vitamin C also helps remove stains; and hyaluronic acid - the same used to fill in injectable form - returns the vigor to the skin. In the following pages, understand what science says about the skin care products that promise miracles for the skin.

Smoke signal

In the war against aging, smoking out already losing ugly. Smoking causes what doctors call vasoconstriction, or decrease the size of blood vessels. The consequences are difficult to tissue oxygenation, premature wrinkles and yellowing skin. "Studies show that smoking can cause more aging than the sun itself," says dermatologist Valeria Campos, Department of laser advisor of the Brazilian Society of Dermatology. The same process is repeated when we abuse alcohol, another bad habit for those who want to maintain beautiful skin. Alcohol stimulates the formation of free radicals, those unstable molecules that damage cells. The exception is the red wine which, if consumed moderately, prevents these free radicals, explains Valeria.
