Obama says meeting with Putin on Syria was productive
President Barack Obama described as productive the meeting had on Monday with Russian President Vladimir Putin, on a cease-fire in Syria, after a previous meeting about which ended in failure.
"We have had productive conversations about what will be a real cessation of hostilities," Obama said after meeting with Putin on the sidelines of the G20 meeting in China.
During the Sunday, many expected an agreement on the conflict in Syria, especially on sending humanitarian aid to the city of Aleppo, one of the most affected by war.
But Washington has accused Moscow of having retreated at some points of the negotiations, which made impossible an agreement between the two powers.
United States and Russia, performing air strikes in Syria against the extremists, but separately, disagree over the future of President Bashar al-Assad, who continues attacking the Syrian opposition with the support of Russia.
The war in Syria, which since 2011 has caused over 290,000 deaths, forced millions of people to flee the country.
