Transexual becomes first British soldier fighting

Exército britânico

London - A transsexual of 24 years became the first soldier with a combat outpost in first line in the infantry of the British Armed Forces, said Saturday the television network "BBC".

In July, the then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, David Cameron, suspended the veto that prevented women participating in missions in the battlefront.

Chloe Allen, who joined the Scottish guard in 2012, changed his name officially - before Ben - and began hormone treatment.

Although the official process to recruit women for infantry positions not start this year, the British Navy decided to keep Allen in his battle station after being registered as a woman.

"I am delighted to have our first woman serving in a combat unit in the field. The British Navy is really proving as an inclusive organization where everyone is welcome and can thrive," said Gen. James Everard.

Allen, fuzileira and driver of armored told the tabloid "The Sun" that he hopes his example will serve to "inspire people to be themselves."

"It's not as bad as people believe. It is much easier when you have the comrades and leaders on their side," said the soldier.

A year after explaining their condition to their families and friends, Allen told his superiors that he intended to become a woman.

"It was nothing out of the ordinary. It was like talking to my boss about a matter of work. It is a very open person," he reported the soldier.
