US Secretary of State John Kerry travels on Thursday (8) to Geneva, where it meets with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in an attempt to reach an agreement for the Syrian conflict - announced the Department of State.

"Their discussion comes after recent talks on Syria, and will focus on reducing violence, increase humanitarian aid to the Syrians and move towards a political solution needed to end the civil war," the folder spokesman John Kirby in a statement.

The State Department did not say when exactly diplomatic leaders will meet, but Kerry may be in the Swiss city on Friday morning.

Scheduled for Thursday and Friday, the Geneva meeting was announced on Wednesday (7) by the Russian side, but Washington refused until the last minute to confirm the trip of Secretary of State.

Kerry and Lavrov returned to speak by phone on Thursday, mainly on a possible "Russian-American cooperation in order to destroy the active groups in Syria, help solve humanitarian problems and promote a political solution in the Syrian conflict," the Russian Foreign Ministry, which said the conversation took place at the initiative of the United States.
