Student in Texas shoots colleague and then kills himself, says sheriff
Austin - A 14-year-old girl shot and wounded a colleague at Alpine high school in rural West Texas on Thursday and later died due to the injury of a shot that gave itself, said the county sheriff of Brewster release.
The injured girl, which, it is speculated, is 16 years old, was taken to a local hospital, and the expectation is that it survives.
No names were released, and no reason was given for the incident in the town of about 6,000 people, said Sheriff Ronny Dodson.
It is believed that the girl who did the shooting moved to Alpine, about 300 km southeast of El Paso with his family six months ago, according to Dodson.
The girl was found dead in the bathroom, and the pistol was recovered nearby.
"That's not going to happen here. He left us all in shock. This is Alpine. It is a peaceful place to come and live," Dodson said, adding that "could have been much worse."
The shots caused the withdrawal of people from school, and other schools were isolated. A video in the local media showed students consoling.
After the shooting, the sheriff's office received bomb threats near a university and an attack on a hospital.
Dodson said the threats were not related to the shots and saw them as sick jokes that scattered resources in a time of crisis.
