Artificial Intelligence defeat human pilots in simulated combat
automated fight
An artificial intelligence system to pilot two human pilots defeated fighters in a combat simulation.
The robotic pilot, named Alpha, used four virtual jets to defend a coastal area of the two fighters and suffered no losses.
Developed by a team of researchers at the University of Cincinnati in the United States, the system also won one pilot instructor for the American Air Force recognized for their experience.
In the simulation, the two jets that attacked the coast - called blue team - had a system of more powerful weapons that the jets used by Alpha, called Red Team.
Despite the disadvantage, the system created by artificial intelligence managed to get rid of enemies after performing a series of evasive maneuvers.
fuzzy logic
The system uses a form of artificial intelligence based on the concept of fuzzy logic - also known as diffuse or fuzzy, with the program analyzing a wide range of options before making the decision.
Because a virtual hunt produce a large amount of data to be interpreted, it is not always obvious which maneuvers are more advantageous or even at what point a gun should be fired. Systems that use fuzzy logic can weigh the importance of these individual data before taking a broader decision.
