Artists complain Youtube at European Commission

                  YouTube

Hundreds of internationally renowned musicians, including Lady Gaga and Paul McCartney, asked on Thursday that the European Commission review the legal status of video platforms like YouTube, accused of abusing his position to not give back enough to artists.

"The future (the music industry) is threatened by a serious 'value transfer' caused by content hosting services like YouTube, which are the value created by the artists illegally," the text sent to the President of the Commission European, Jean-Claude Juncker.

Also signed the complaint names as Elton John, David Guetta, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Sting and Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin.

According to the calculations of Snep, main union of record producers in France, a video in streaming yields about three times less to producers than a free audio on Deezer and Spotify, and fifty times less than a streaming audio paid (through the signing of this type of site).

The artists believe that future discussions on European copyright should "correct this important economic distortion", clarifying the legal status of platforms, accused of abusing his position of 'host', which avoids the need to negotiate rights broadcast, as do sites streaming.

According to Snep, YouTube can agreements with producers at artificially low prices.

For its part, YouTube defended in a statement to Billboard magazine ensuring that an "overwhelming majority of record companies signed agreements that allow the dissemination of videos and to generate rents."

"Today, we pay more than $ 3 billion to the music industry," says the platform.
