Peña Nieto explains Trump comparison to Hitler and Mussolini
Ottawa - Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, who previously compared Donald Trump, likely Republican candidate for US president, Adolf Hitler and Benito Mussolini, said on Wednesday that it had only made the comment as a reminder of the devastation caused in past.
Speaking to the media next to US President Barack Obama and Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, who gathered in Ottawa for the summit of the "Three Amigos," Peña Nieto warned of the dangers of populism in a globalized world.
"Hitler, Mussolini, we all know the result," he said, when asked about the comparison. "It was only a call for reflection and recognition that we may have in mind what we have achieved and so we have to achieve." The likely republican candidate in the presidential elections of November 8, Trump has angered Mexico with its promise to build a wall campaign in the southern border of the United States to keep illegal immigrants and drugs out of the country and to make Mexico pay for the work. in March, Peña Nieto compared the "strident tone" Trump the rise of dictators like Hitler and Mussolini, attacking the "populism" of Trump campaign, which, he said, sought to give simple solutions to complicated problems.
"In different places we see actors and political leaders who adopt populist and demagogic positions and try to eliminate or destroy what took decades to build," said Peña Nieto on Wednesday.
Trump promises to renegotiate or end with the Free Trade Agreement North American Trade, NAFTA, if you become president.
"Isolation is not the way, integration is," said Peña Nieto, repeating that Mexico will work with anyone to become US president.
