Republicans attack Hillary in report on Benghazi

Hillary Clinton em 2013 respondendo a questionamentos sobre Benghazi, dia 23/01/2016

Republican lawmakers had on Tuesday an expected report on the fatal attack on the US mission in Benghazi (Libya), which accused the then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, underestimate and misunderstand the extremist threat.

The report was questioned by Democrats in Congress committee to investigate the attack, which denounced the electoral character in the document presented by his colleagues.

In turn, the State Department said the report provides little new information about the events that occurred in September 2012.

Republican Congressman Trey Gowdy, who chaired the committee, presented the report as a tribute to the four Americans killed in attack: Ambassador Chris Stevens, the state official Sean Smith department, and security contractors CIA Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods .

At the time, the attackers stormed the diplomatic easily install and set fire to the residence of the ambassador. After that, they attacked the Annex to the CIA.

"Now, just ask the American people to read this report, look at the evidence we collect and reach their own conclusions," he said.

The document feeds the interpretation that the government was slow to react to the risks in Libya and hastened to relate it to a protest by the disclosure on the Internet of an anti-Islamic video produced in the United States.

The Republican report will certainly help to increase the temperature in the tense campaign to succeed US President Barack Obama at the White House.

Republicans conclude that the government was not diligent to protect the lives of its employees in Benghazi.

"We expect our government to do everything possible to save the lives of Americans serving in the midst of danger. That did not happen," said Representative Mike Pompeo.

The spokesman for the State Department, Mark Toner, said that "the essential facts surrounding the 2012 attacks in Benghazi are known for some time," noting that there are two independent investigations of government and seven held by congressional committees.

The extremists attack this Libyan city occurred while Obama was engaged in a tough battle for re-election against Republican Mitt Romney.

Initially, official explanations related murder of US officials, just occurred on the eleventh anniversary of the September 11 attacks in 2001, as a reaction to a video posted on YouTube.

The Republican report shows that many government officials knew from the beginning that in fact it was a terrorist attack planned.
