Meet the "Angels of Death": HIV-positive prostitutes who charge $ 2 per program
In virtually any city or country where you go, you find places intended for prostitution. However, one of these points, located in Nigeria, draws attention to its dangerousness, and eventually attracted curious journalists and foreigners. In the Nigerian city of Lagos, more specifically in the Badia neighborhood, a group of women meet daily to make programs that cost around $ 2. However, clients need to be aware of one thing: women have HIV.
This peculiarity made women nicknamed "death angels", since those who use their services are practically playing with their lives. Typically, women who choose to work in this place are already in the final stages of their lives. This is because AIDS, which is not only a problem in Nigeria, but practically throughout Africa, is often not treated in African countries. According to the United Nations, 80% of infected Africans do not have access to treatment.
The journalist Ton Koene ventured into the neighborhood where the "angels of death" operate, and made some photographs of the reality found there. "If you get in the car, you can smell the HIV out there," Koene said in a disrespectful commentary, according to a Mirror story.
The younger and prettier the girl, the more expensive she is. The men visit the program girls as if they were walking in a bakery, "said the taxi driver. There are even underage women in the area, and the risks are not limited to HIV, but there are also reports of physical, sexual, and abduction.
Some women earn about $ 10 a day, serving about five clients daily. To get more customers, they need to show off.
As you can see, some women end up getting pregnant.
