Trump bans transsexuals in US Armed Forces

Transfobia no Governo Trump

"Our military can not afford the medical costs that transgender people represent," he said.

For Donald Trump, not all citizens are equal. In a statement by Twitter that will be remembered in the future for its deeply discriminatory aspect, the president of the United States prohibited on Wednesday the presence of transgender people in the country's Armed Forces. The measure represents the definitive repeal of the order given by his predecessor, Barack Obama, which would come into effect on July 1, opening the doors of the barracks to men and transgender women.

"After consulting with my generals and military experts, the US Government will not accept transgender individuals in the Armed Forces. Our military needs to be focused on victory and can not afford the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender people will represent to the military, "Trump said.

The ban is a blow to the integration policy promoted by Obama. Prior to his presidency, transsexuals were classified as "sex offenders" and were to be expelled from the Armed Forces. With the guidelines passed under their mandate, not only were they fully accepted but they also gained the right to full sex-change treatment.

A study published in the medical journal JAMA concluded that almost 13,000 transsexuals already work in the military (1% of the total military), and that military doctors are not prepared to serve them, much less to ensure their correct transition.
