Stephen Hawking: search for aliens can lead to catastrophe for humanity

Um extraterrestre

According to Hawking, while the recently discovered planet Gilese 832c may be potentially inhabited, it is unlikely that any alien life would like to know about our existence, reports the Express.

In Stephen Hawking's Favorite Places documentary, he added, "The encounter with an advanced civilization may recall the encounter of the Native Americans with Columbus, which did not work well."

According to him, the aliens may be "looters" who conquer the planets to appropriate the resources, reports Express.

The new planet discovered is five times larger than Earth and has similar temperatures.

The planet is considered as an uninhabited super-Earth and is 16 light years from our planet.
