West suffered a drastic reduction in the number of spermatozoa

The Journal of Medical and Biological Matters, Human Reproduction Update, published by the University of Oxford in England, published studies revealing that men from developed countries, mostly Western, suffered a drastic reduction in the number of spermatozoa.

According to the Human Reproduction Update, doctors, biologists, and scientists conducted 185 studies over 38 years (from 1973 to 2011) with 43,000 men from the countries of North America, Europe and Oceania, Australia and New Zealand. In these men, a reduction of 99 million sperm per liter of sperm was found to 47 million.

In the same period, we also analyzed the biological conditions of men living in countries of South America, Africa and also Asia. No significant reduction in the number of spermatozoa was observed in these three continents.

Antonio Braga, professor of obstetrics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and Federal Fluminense (UFF), already familiar with these studies, only now revealed, was not surprised by his conclusions. In an interview with Sputnik Brasil, the doctor Antonio Braga observed:

"Certainly, the subject does not bring great news in the medical area but it presents in a forceful way the findings of the researches done during more than 30 years, in which the percentage reduction of spermatozoa per ml (milliliters) ejaculated is verified in a very interesting and robust way. Some issues should be weighed by the importance of the subject since the presence of sperm guarantees our fertility, which fertility keeps our species at the top of the chain of life on our planet. Of course, news like this deserve the full attention of medicine, physicians and the general population. "

Professor Antonio Braga also commented on the apparent contradiction of the reduction of the number of spermatozoa occurring in men living in developed countries, with supposedly better quality of life.

"Here, we should do an analysis in two respects. First, on the speculative side, because the article, while recognizing this reduction, was not able to point out the causes of this so important phenomenon in the biology of human reproduction. However, it is pointed out that these more developed regions, usually located in the Northern Hemisphere of the planet, are very sensitive to environmental pollution and the accumulation of pesticides and this may be acting on this fertility issue. But other aspects must be emphasized and a warning for all men, especially for young people at reproductive ages who intend to have children, must be taken care of for the health of man. It is then a digression: men tend to neglect their own health, since they are an important productive force in the labor market. Our women, in addition to working out, in addition to working from home, are much more caring for their own health, "concluded the specialist.
