SCORES of women are undergoing vagina surgery in a bid to look good in bikinis and yoga pants.
The US has seen an astonishing 49 per cent rise in women – from teenagers to pensioners – who are paying plastic surgeons to alter the appearance of their genitals.
One type of ‘designer vagina’ op – medically known as labiaplasty – is performed on the labia, changing the shape or size of the outer folds and making them symmetrical.
Most often, it’s carried out to make the labia smaller.
Other patients are booking themselves in for vaginoplasty – a procedure that tightens up vaginas, usually after childbirth or because of old age.
Vagina surgery has become “one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in women”, according to aesthetic plastic surgeon Dr Jennifer Walden – who performs around three labiaplasty ops per week.
She told the Daily Mail: “It is one of the fastest rising procedures, in terms of popularity.
“It can prove life-changing for so many patients.
“Over the last three to four years, I have seen a large rise in procedures for feminine issues.”
Enlarged labia can cause discomfort for women when clad in tight clothes – or during sex.
Dr Walden added: “Some women have a real issue with contouring when wearing tight jeans and yoga pants.
“They want to look and appear sleeker in that area. And enlarged labia can have a real impact on a woman’s sex life.
“In mechanical terms the labia can be tugged on constantly, which can cause repeated pressure during sex, which leads to severe discomfort.”
