Ten people indicted in China for spoiled meat scandal
A Chinese court announced that it had indicted 10 people linked to a spoiled meat scandal, in which an OSI American subsidiary was accused of having sold these products to major fast food companies, including McDonald's.
These ten people had ties to two branches of the OSI Group food producer located in Shanghai and Hebei province (east), reported the Shanghai procuratorate.
Among these is the principal production of OSI China. The accused will have to answer for "alleged acts of producing and selling substandard goods," said the prosecutor in a brief statement.
The case began in July 2014 after broadcasting a report Shanghai television that showed employees returning to put in the meat production line that had fallen on the floor and manipulating pieces in a state so bad they were greenish.
Chinese officials confirmed shortly after the Husi Food, branch in Shanghai OSI, had returned to label and marketed spoiled meat, distributing it to major fast-food enterprises in China, including McDonald's, KFC and Pizza Hut.
