EU leaders hope Cameron explanations after referendum
Brussels - State Heads of the and government of the European Union (EU) hope on Tuesday that the UK Prime Minister, David Cameron, give explanations about the current situation and its relationship with the members of the community bloc after the referendum in which the British supported the output of EU country.
The Community institutions insisted that the United Kingdom shall notify "as soon as possible" to other members of his decision to leave officially, which would activate Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty and give the green light to exit negotiations.
"Legally it is impossible to force" the United Kingdom activate Article 50, according to diplomatic sources.
But if the United Kingdom to postpone the formal notification, there are block members who have raised the possibility of recourse to Article 7 of the Treaty, which is the suspension of the British vote in the EU Council.
Before the summit, the European Parliament (EP) held a special plenary session to discuss the referendum consequences.
The plenary will vote on a resolution, backed by the main political groups, urging Cameron to notify the referendum results "immediately."
In the process of reflection that the leaders of the 27 members will begin on Wednesday on the future of the EU, at its first meeting without the UK, send the message of "trust" and "determination" to work for a better European Union.
