Jimmy Carter delivers maps with Russia EI positions

Moscow .- Former US president Jimmy Carter handed Russia maps with the Islamic State of positions (EI) and other jihadi groups in Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

"Effectively, Jimmy Carter spoke to us with the proposal to send the maps of power in its center (Carter Center) on the current positions of the groups fighting in Syria," said Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry.


These maps "include the positions of government forces, EI and other groups."

"The received data is not secret. Most are published in the Carter Center site. In any case, we receive with gratitude the gesture of the former US president," he said.

The diplomat pointed out that "of course, (Carter) supports the joint efforts in the fight against terrorism and is concerned about the fate of the Syrian people."

"Certainly, from our point of view it would be more logical and effective if such a constructive approach was taken by those in Washington have all the information regarding" he said.

Russia should receive information "from another Lord Carter, the current Minister of Defense, Ashton" Carter, Zakharova said.
