Imagine taking the car to New York, crossing the two extremes of Canada, enjoy the freezing cold of Alaska, go 10 thousand kilometers of Russia, passing through Belarus, Poland, Germany, France to arrive, finally, to London. A turtleneck and both - but with a rewarding bonus: spotting the most diverse types of landscapes.
This is the road project Trans-Eurasian Belt Development, headed by the company Russian Railways. Would be more than 20,000 kilometers of road and a trip lasting at least seven consecutive days.
Of course it will not be so easy. First the difficulties presented by the way. Some Alaska stretches are full of mountains and without any road. One would have to build from scratch more than 800 kilometers.
Passing this stage, engineers have yet to figure out what to do with the 88 kilometers that separate the northern mainland of Russia. There are two options: a bridge or tunnel. None of them is still ruled out.
Along this gigantic road, we would still need to build pipelines, water supply facilities and power plants. The final bill will be as big as the ambition of the Russian company: at least 2 trillion.
