Five years after its launch, the Juno probe works well and should enter the orbit of Jupiter on the 5th of July, as planned, to explore the mysteries of the largest planet in the solar system, NASA said on Thursday.
The four-ton spacecraft, powered by solar energy, is currently less than 14 million kilometers from its destination, and will perform a series of flights just 4667 km of thick cloudy layer of the giant gas planet, during a scientific mission that will last 16 months.
Flights Juno surpass the record of approaching 43,000 kilometers of Jupiter, established by the American probe Pioneer 11 in 1974.
During the flight, the instruments of the probe penetrate the thick Jupiter cloudy layer to study the origins of the planet, its structure, atmosphere and magnetosphere.
