The Juno spacecraft, the US space agency NASA, arrives today (4) the planet Jupiter, as disclosed by the agency.
This is the first time that a device of this type enters the planet's orbit. The journey of the probe, powered by solar energy, to Jupiter lasted almost five years.
According to NASA, Juno should slow down to a speed of 542 meters per second in order to be captured by the planet's orbit.
Once in orbit of Jupiter, the probe will give 37 laps around the planet in an estimated period of 20 months, covering about 5000 km.
"This is the first spacecraft to orbit Jupiter's poles, providing new answers to ongoing mysteries related to the planet's core, composition and magnetic fields," said NASA in a statement.
