In Scotland after referendum, Queen Elizabeth says to stay calm can be difficult

EDINBURGH - Queen Elizabeth said on Saturday the Scottish parliament to keep calm in a world of rapid change can be difficult.

In speech after formally open the fifth session of the Scottish Parliament, she did not mention the vote last week by the UK out of the European Union, a result that shook Scotland and provoked calls for a new referendum for independence.

"We all live and work in an increasingly complex and demanding world, where events can and do occur at a remarkable speed, and have the ability to stay calm and collected can be difficult," said the monarch 90 years, whose function requires a rigorous public impartiality in political matters.

"As this Parliament has successfully demonstrated over the years, a leading brand allows enough space for quiet contemplation and reflection in a fast paced world, allowing a deeper and cool consideration of the challenges and opportunities can best be addressed" he added.
