Washington plans to put its bombs closer to Russia
The Americans conducted a second flight test of the B61-12 bomb, which will be produced from 2020.
As the US authorities explain, the bomb is being modernized to strengthen US national security. According to the National Nuclear Safety Administration, the new amendment should replace the obsolete versions B61-3, B61-4, B61-7 and B61-10.
As emphasized by former US Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, the modernized version of the bomb will have a smaller size. It is expected to be compatible with the new generation of fighter jets, such as the Joint Strike Fighter F-35.
A particular feature of the new pump is also its precision guiding tail, which makes it more controllable. Therefore, there is no need to fly directly over the target and launch it from parachute. It can be launched from a plane flying at high altitude and falling in a controlled manner, according to the planned trajectory.
The United States plans to put new B61-12 bombs in its military bases in Europe: Germany, Italy, Turkey, Belgium and the Netherlands. At the same time, several non-governmental organizations and officials of the European Union protest against the installation of these nuclear bombs on their territory.
According to analysts, the measure envisaged by the Americans is directed not only against Russia. Thus, the director of the Institute of Political and Military Analysis, Aleksandr Khramchikhin, believes that the circle of potential US enemies also includes China, North Korea and Iran.
However, according to Konstantin Sivkov, president of the Academy of
Geopolitical Problems and Doctor of Military Sciences, this is a free fall bomb and not a missile, that is, the aircraft that the throw must overcome the air defense system.
"Given that Russia's anti-aircraft defense system is now very good, it will be difficult to overcome," Sivkov explained.
