Explosion in Central Park in New York, leaves man injured

                      

New York - A 19 year old man suffered serious injuries to his left leg after stepping on an explosive on Sunday morning in Central Park in New York.

Officials say the young man was in the park around 11am, and witnesses said he had stepped on a stone "when something exploded" and was heard blocks away.

"It looked like a cannon," said Sara Gordon told the Daily News. "I thought it was something of July 4 (US Independence Day)."

The authorities did not provide the identity of the injured man, but furthermore stated that he must have his leg amputated due to the severity of injury.

The bomb squad of New York and the police are investigating the explosion of circumstances. Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted a message advising people to protect themselves from fireworks. "Source: Associated Press.
