London - Former Brazilian soccer star Pelé urged Lionel Messi to reconsider his decision to retire from the Argentine national team, in an interview with Britain's "Sky Sports" broadcast on Friday.

"Over the past ten years has been the best player in the world, no doubt. What happened to him are things that happen in football. Only those who have the courage to hit a penalty can make mistakes," Pele said.

"It is normal that he is sad and disappointed, but have to wait a little and forget it, since it is something that has happened to very good players. All lost a penalty ever in life," he said 'The King', before adding that he hopes Messi listen to him.

The Argentine playmaker of Barcelona, 29, announced last Sunday after losing to the Chile the final of the Copa America on penalties Centennial - his third consecutive end lost - that would retire the Argentine national team.
