Autopsy confirms that Prince died from an overdose of opioids

Los Angeles - The Prince musician died from an overdose of Fentanyl opiode, according to the final results of the autopsy revealed on Thursday by Midwest Medical Examiners Office in Ramsey, Minnesota (USA).

The clinical report was made public after the American press have anticipated today the cause of death of the artist, 57. The findings of the autopsy point to a Fentanyl overdose last April 21.

According to the description available on the website National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA, its acronym in English) Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid "similar to morphine, but more powerful." According to the NIDA Fentanyl is often used to treat patients with severe or chronic pain, or after an operation.

The medical center report revealed moreover that the musician weighed 50.8 kg at the time of death.

Since the death of the musician, different information pointed to excessive consumption of opioids as a possible cause of his death. At the time, the site "TMZ" reported that Prince had been hospitalized for an overdose of Percocet, another opioid, six days before his death.

In addition, the artist officials contacted Howard Kornfeld, a specialist in the treatment of addiction to opioids, the day before the death of Prince.
