One of the icons of the 90s can return to action. So says the British publication Auto Express, on a calculation which indicates that the BMW 8 Series coupe can return as a completely new model to cope with the luxury Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe.

The finding of intellectual property records made by BMW, which revealed the names of family models Series 8, as the 825, 830, 835, 845, 850, 860 and M850.

This suggests that the Bavarian brand is already developing a new family of coupes in the best tradition Grand Tourer - Luxury car high performance, perfect to face long journeys.

Currently, the 6 Series occupies this gap in the BMW portfolio, but rumors suggest that the next 6 Series is a sporty smaller proportions to fight Porsche 911, as the Mercedes-AMG GT has achieved relative success in this segment.

Before a heavy coupe, the new 6 Series would become a nimble two-seater, something possible as BMW and Toyota share a platform for the development of a sports (BMW with the roadster Z4 and Toyota with the new Supra) .

According to the publication, this modular platform would serve only for the new Z4, but also for the future 6 Series.

This would open up space for the new Series 8 occupy the space that previously belonged to the 6 Series.

The good news is that BMW also recorded the M8 name, originally a version prepared by the Motorsport division with reduced weight and extended body that ever hit the market in 90 years by an alleged lack of demand.

At the time, BMW created M8 prototypes with engine V12 6.1 635 hp under the hood (which would end up being used in the McLaren F1 later).

If you go into production, the new M8 will fight directly with the Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG Coupé 585 hp (already tested by FOUR WHEELS).

Analyzing the drivers available in the current M range of BMW, the new M8 would probably be equipped with the V8 4.4 biturbo 560 hp, leaving the versions "civilian" high-end Series 8 (850 and M860) equipped with the same V8 4.4 biturbo (offered in Series 7), but with 450 hp.
