Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton declared victory after the primaries this Tuesday (08/06), and appealed to supporters of his rival, Bernie Sanders, to join her in the race against Republican Donald Trump. The Democratic senator, however, insists he will take his campaign to the end.

Speaking after the victory in the primary state of New Jersey, Clinton defended a country that is "tolerant, inclusive and fair", and declared that a historic milestone was reached last night.

"It's the first time in our nation's history that a woman will be the candidate of one of the major parties," he said in New York. "The win tonight is not just one person. It belongs to generations of men and women who fought to make this possible."

The former first lady, former senator and former Secretary of State strides toward the party's nomination at the Democratic convention in July, after the victories in the states of New Jersey, New Mexico and South Dakota. Also in California, state more electoral weight, Hillary was wide advantage over Sanders.

Hillary exceeded the amount of 2,383 party delegates needed for the nomination to almost 2.5000, compared with just over 1 600 Sanders. The pre-candidate also has a large advantage in the number of so-called "superdelegates", accounting for 571 against 48 of his opponent.
Sanders promises to go all the way

Sanders, however, showed confidence to assert its supporters in California that will take its campaign to the primary Washington next week. "Then We will take our struggle for social, economic, racial and environmental justice to Philadelphia," he said, referring to the state where the Democratic convention will be held.

"I'm very good at arithmetic, so I know that the fight ahead will be very, very hard," noted Sanders. "But I will continue to fight for every vote and every delegate we can win."

The Sanders campaign won the liberal wing of the party and the youth vote, while at the same time exposes divisions among Democrats. According to research, between one quarter and one third of the Vermont senator's supporters say they would not vote for Clinton under any circumstances.

The pre-candidate also has low levels of acceptance throughout the country, which can create problems when you face Republican Donald Trump in the presidential race.

Trump, in turn, won the Republican primaries in California and New Jersey, and should also win in South Dakota, Montana and New Mexico. Billionaire called the vote of Sanders supporters: "We will welcome them with open arms."
