New York Region registers 1st case related to microcephaly zika virus
Hackensack, New Jersey - The metropolitan area of New York registered the first case a baby with microcephaly related to zika virus, according to doctors at the University Medical Center in Hackensack, New Jersey.
A woman from Honduras, 31, delivered a baby on Tuesday in the medical center, said Dr. Abdulla Al-Kahn, director of the hospital and obstetrics. The mother, whose name was not released, contracted the virus zika in Honduras. She then went to New Jersey, where he has family, to seek further treatment, the doctor said.
According to Al-Kahn, ultrasound was normal at the beginning of her pregnancy and only last week showed birth defects including microcephaly. Source: Associated Press.
