São Paulo - Celebrated Italian composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi turned into elegy dramatic melting of the Arctic. Einaudi presented a new and original composition in a makeshift floating platform in the middle of the ocean, with the backdrop of the whiteness of the glaciers of Svalbard, Norway.

The performance is part of a campaign by the environmental NGO Greenpeace, which aims to sensitize the world population to the effects of global warming.

The decline of sea ice has accelerated in the last two decades, reaching record levels, and is associated with warmer weather in the region, which is affected by climate change and by short-term temporal variability.

The launch of the action also takes place in the week that governments of various countries discuss a set of policies to protect the Arctic, which is increasingly vulnerable to oil and overfishing.
