Washington - About 30 people gathered on Monday in downtown Washington to protest the opening of a new hotel that takes the Republican candidate's name to the presidency of the United States, Donald Trump, and which is less than a kilometer from White house, where the tycoon trust that will be after the November elections.
"Not Trump, not the KKK (Ku Klux Klan), not a racist America," chanted the protesters, who gathered in the early morning and promise to stay until the night in front of the hotel, which was opened today at Avenida history Pennsylvania American capital.
Despite the official opening ceremony of the project being scheduled for October and no forecast of a visit to the Trump site today, the group wanted to hold the protest on the first day of hotel operations and report the candidate's racist rhetoric.
"Any guest between now at a Trump hotel should know that there will be angry protesters outside," said Efe Brian Becker, national director of Answer Coalition, an organization pacifist civil and racism that organized the act.
Trump won in 2012 a contract to restore the former headquarters of the post office, a majestic building of the late nineteenth century, and turn it into a luxury hotel, a task in which it invested about $ 200 million. The works were completed ahead of schedule.
Throughout the presidential campaign, the building, which is on the avenue leading from the Capitol to the White House, won a huge sign with the Republican candidate's name.
The project was surrounded by controversy, especially after the Spanish chef José Andrés have refused to operate a restaurant inside the hotel because of racist comments Trump, who decided to sue him for breach of contract.
"Our goal was to build a human wall against racism, against intolerance and in defense and support of immigrants and the Muslim community," said Becker.
With a banner saying "yes Tacos, Trump did not," the Indian immigrant Suhail Shafi summarized its solidarity with the Mexican immigrants who were attacked by Trump during the presidential campaign.
"Today he tries to put against the Mexicans. Tomorrow will be with another group and so on. This will create a more dangerous and sinister country for all of us," Shafi said.
