By Laila Kearney - A Columbus white policeman in the US state of Ohio, which responded to a call for a robbery, shot a young black man of 13 years after the teenager draw what appeared to be a gun, but was later identified as a compressed air gun, police said on Thursday.
Tyree King, 13, was shot several times in an alley when he drew his waist what appeared to be a handgun during a confrontation with police on Wednesday, officials said.
Police said in an interview on Thursday that King was black and the officer was white. The officer was identified as Bryan Mason, nine-year veteran of the police force.
King's death occurred nearly two years after the shooting death of Tamir Rice, a young black man who was 12, by a white police officer in Cleveland who responded to a call of a possible suspect with gun in a municipal park.
An investigation revealed that Rice, who died a day after being shot, holding a replica that fired plastic capsules.
In the case of King, detectives recovered the weapon at the site of the shooting and later determined that it was an air gun that shoots small capsules and had a laser sight attached, police said.
