London - The Mayor of London, the Labour Sadiq Khan, launched on Friday a message of reassurance to European citizens living in the capital to tell them that they are "very welcome."
"As a city, we are grateful for the enormous contribution you and it will not change with the outcome of this referendum," said Khan in a statement.
"There are almost 1 million European citizens residing in London today and bring great benefits to this city, work hard, pay taxes, work in our public services and contribute to our civic and cultural life," said the mayor.
"You are one of the main reasons that make this one of the best cities in the world," added Khan.
The London Mayor insisted that now is "the responsibility of all to repair the divisions that arose during the campaign" and that the British need to focus on what unites them.
Sadiq Khan, who succeeded in office Conservative Boris Johnson on the last day 5, was one of the pillars of the campaign the Labour Party for stay in the European Union.
