Celebration of Caribbean immigration in NY ends with 2 dead
New York - At least two people were killed on Monday by shooting firearms in the New York neighborhood of Brooklyn during the celebration of Caribbean immigration, reported local media outlets.
The victims were a woman of 22, who was shot in the head, and a young man between 18 and 20, mortally wounded in the chest.
In addition, three other people were injured, two of them by gunfire and the third by white weapon.
The Caribbean carnival, known as "J'Ouvert" began at dawn and the incidents occurred before dawn, holiday in the United States by Labor Day.
No details were given official details on possible arrests because of these facts.
The New York Police redoubled vigilance during these celebrations to avoid acts of violence such as those recorded in previous editions.
Last year, the attorney Carey Gabay, an aide to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, died by a stray bullet fired by an armed clash between two rival groups, and one more person died stabbed.
The celebrations of the "J'Ouvert" New York often join tens of thousands of city residents.
