Washington - The governor of Florida, Rick Scott, arrived in Washington on Tuesday to make a new request for Congress to approve funds to fight the zika virus, at a time when financial resources should be exhausted at the end of the month.
"We started to have cases of zika virus in our state in February. Since then, I have asked for Congress to be partner, asking for federal funding. But they did not," said Scott. "The Obama administration has not been a good partner," he added.
Scott's trip came at a time when lawmakers struggle to reach a bipartisan agreement to finance a Florida government-month battle against zika virus.
Last week, Senate Democrats voted against the third time to pass a law that would allocate $ 1.1 billion to fight zika in response to the action of the Republicans inserted measures to eliminate funding for family planning programs, which facilitate abortion.
According to the governor, without the additional help of Congress before the end of the fiscal year, which ends September 30, the essential activities to public health could become impossible.
