Maritime comedy: old British frigate escorts advanced Chinese ships
A British ship built in 1992 accompanied the three Chinese warships that crossed the Channel Channel a few days ago to participate in the Russian-Chinese exercises on the Baltic.
The British Navy's command sent a ship built 25 years ago to escort the new Chinese ships that crossed the English Channel to participate in joint maneuvers with Russia, reports The Telegraph.
On July 15 and 16, three modern warships passed through the Strait of Calais. According to the Chinese daily Global Times, one of the ships was a type 052D destroyer, built in 2015 and equipped with an electromagnetic detection device with a vertical draft facility. This ship belongs to the most advanced class of destroyers of the Chinese army, able to contain attacks of enemy airplanes, submarines and missiles, according to the Daily Star.
The command of the British Navy urgently dispatched a 23 Richmond frigate, built in 1992, to the area.
According to the Daily Star, in the North Sea the Chinese ships were accompanied by Dutch vessels.
Previously the Chinese flotilla had carried out maneuvers in the Mediterranean sea. According to the British newspaper, the exercises were a "demonstration of the strength" and the military potential of Beijing.
