'Pact with devil': Satanists resolve in good faith action against Netflix and Warner Bros
US-based Satan Temple has reached an agreement with entertainment company Netflix over a lawsuit over alleged copyright infringement filed earlier this month, according to a statement issued Wednesday by the co-founder of the Satanic church.
At the center of this controversy is the statue of Baphomet, a pagan god of fertility, depicted with a ram or goat's head, which appeared in several chapters in the series "The Frightening Adventures of Sabrina," produced by Warner Bros. and distributed by Netflix.
"Satanic Temple is pleased to announce that the recent action against Warner Bros and Netflix has been resolved amicably. The unique elements of the Baphomet statue of the Satanic Temple were recognized in the filmed episodes," the statement said.
In addition to accusing companies of unauthorized use of the image of the diabolical idol, the organization also claimed that the god was wrongly portrayed as a symbol of evil, as in the series he associates with cannibalism, necromancy, murder and torture, while his true mission is to promote benevolence and empathy among people.
For copyright infringement, false trademark designation and damage to reputation, Satanic Temple initially asked for compensation of more than 50 million dollars. However, a "confidentiality agreement" has been reached which leaves obscure details of the pact with "the king of darkness".
