Shortage of military leads UK to seek recruits in other countries, newspaper reports

The United Kingdom will, for the first time, allow people from other countries to serve in its Army, writes the British edition The Times.

For the past three years, the British Army has recruited fewer than 3,000 troops, according to the newspaper. In addition, in the first quarter of this year only 7% of the planned number of military personnel were summoned to military service.

As a way to deal with the growing crisis associated with the shortage of military forces, the British country will allow people who have never lived in the country to join their Armed Forces.

The British Ministry of Defense has also decided to cancel the requirement to live in the country for five years for citizens of the Commonwealth, including Australia, India and Canada, and also intends to recruit 1,350 soldiers from foreign countries annually.

The British Royal Navy will begin the convening process early next year.

As noted by The Times, over the past three years, the British Army has recruited fewer than 3,000 troops than would have been necessary. During the first quarter of this year, only 7% of the required number of military personnel were called for military service.

British Conservative MP Mark Francois has reported that according to the Defense Committee data, if everything goes as expected, this year the army will meet only half of the recruitment target.
