The United States has included more than 700 individuals and entities, including banks, airlines and vessels, in the list of sanctions against Iran. The Treasury Department said in a statement Monday.

"Today, in its biggest one-day action against the Iranian regime, the US Treasury Department's Foreign Assets Control Department has sanctioned more than 700 individuals, entities, aircraft and vessels," the statement said.

It added that the sanctions will impose "unprecedented financial pressure on the Iranian regime," which will "reach a comprehensive agreement that will permanently prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and halt the development of ballistic missiles."

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told a news conference that civilian nuclear power projects were granted exemptions under new sanctions on Iran, including the Bushehr power plant.

At a news conference on Monday, Pompeo was asked to ask about the three exemptions issued for civil nuclear power projects and whether Bushehr was one of them.

"There are three, Bushehr is one of three, but we will publish a full report report the next hour, which everyone will see," he said.

Pompeo also said that more than 20 countries have already reduced their imports of oil from Iran, reducing purchases by more than 1 million barrels a day.

The secretary of state stressed that continuing business with Iran, circumventing the sanctions, will turn out to be a "far more painful" decision than the withdrawal from the Iranian market.

"More than 20 countries have reduced imports of crude oil to zero [from Iran]. The regime has lost more than $ 2.5 billion in oil revenues since May, "he added.

US President Donald Trump announced in May that Washington was withdrawing from the agreement on the nuclear program with Iran. It also reported on restoring all sanctions against Iran, including secondary ones, ie against other countries who do business with Iran.
