Condition is rare, but does not last forever; Puppy, which was nicknamed Forest had six more siblings, all yellowish in color
Children are not always born similar to their parents. Sometimes babies come with their mother's traits and, in other situations, they may be just like their parents. In the pet world the rule is also no different, especially when the races mingle. But a Scotswoman was shocked to realize that the puppy her bitch had just given birth seemed to have come with a somewhat unusual feature.
When she gave birth to a litter of seven puppies, one of them was of the brethren by a peculiar detail: its color was green. Louise Shutterland, the owner of Rio, a Golden Retriever bitch, was confused when she noticed the difference of the green dog.
"We were together, me and my daughter, when puppies began to arrive.
We watched closely the birth of each of them, when we realized that only one had the green hairs. We could not believe what we were seeing, "says Louise, who nicknamed Forest's newborn animal.
Rare case
The fact is very rare, but, according to science, is not synonymous to panic, since the condition is not associated with the health of the puppy. Studies show that the phenomenon is caused by a biliary pigment, called biliverdine, which is found in the placenta of female dogs.
This substance is characterized as green prismatic crystals, which do not dissolve in water, and are formed in the body from hemoglobin or bilirubin.
When mixed with the amniotic fluid of the mother - the one that protects and nourishes the fetus of the animal - the puppy can have the skin stained. But the anomaly does not last forever. Over time, the color will "fade" and the dog's hair returns to its original or whitish color.
Few such cases have been reported worldwide. In Spain, a brown labrador puppy had also been born with the same characteristic and caused a lot of curiosity at the time.
In Brazil, a city in the interior of São Paulo, Mairinque, also recorded the birth of another Labrador that was born with the greenish coat, nicknamed the Hulk, but later changed its color to white.
Forest
Louise had decided that the seven puppies of Rio would have been donated since the beginning of the gestation of her dog, who had already gone into labor for five hours, which resulted in five puppies - all with the same color as their mother. But after Forest's birth, she's thinking of keeping the puppy for her.
